Thanks to all who made Pledge Sunday and the picnic lunch so successful and fun!
By now we hope you have been contacted by a canvasser and perhaps have even returned your completed pledge card. If you have not been contacted, please let Ed or Ann know and we'll be sure you're not left out!
See the bulletin board outside the church office for each week's total as we build our future for the upcoming "season" in our church's life. We're hoping to have all pledges in by April 13.

Children's Books Wanted. Do you have children's books your own children have outgrown, but are too good to throw away? Consider donating them to our church's bookstore. We sell donated books for 50 cents and 25 cents each, and have a special table for children's books. At present we have an entire shelf of detective novels for sale, including books by Dick Francis, Ross MacDonald, P.D. James and Rex Stout.
Our church library and bookstore are open during coffee hour each Sunday in the Clara Barton Lounge. We have a magazine exchange, with donated magazines sold for 5 cents and some free, and a book table for new books ordered from the UUA Bookstore, which are sold at our cost. We accept almost any interesting book in good condition for donation, and are always interested in suggestions for books to order from the UUA Bookstore.
Books may be checked out from our lending library for four weeks at a time. Recent acquistions include Kate Braestrup's Here If You Need Me, Bruce A. Jacobs' Race Manners for the 21st Century and Susan Skog's Peace In Our Lifetime. If you're looking for a particular book, check our library catalog, which lists books in our collection by subject, author and title.
On April 20, 2008, members of our congregation voted 79 to 2 to call The Rev. Sally Hamlin as our settled minister. Rev. Hamlin then had the option to accept or decline our call. We are very pleased that she said "Yes!"
The annual St. Lawrence District Assembly will be held on April 25 and 26, 2008 as more than 150 UU's from 34 congregations will gather in Owego, New York at the Owego Treadway Inn & Conference Center.
Hosted by the UU Congregation of Binghamton, this year's gathering is "Sustainable Earth: A Call to Action." It begins on Friday evening, April 25, with the Josephine Gould Discourse by Rev. Joel Miller of Buffalo and continues all day Saturday, April 26, with worship, workshops, and a keynote address by Dr. Pinstrup-Andersen of Cornell.
Are you interested in learning about better management of the earth's resources, what churches can do in the 2008 election, or teaching as a spiritual practice? How about contemporary worship practices, sustainable living, or civil liberties and the war on terror? These are only six of 12 exciting workshops being offered Saturday at District Assembly. The day's events will also feature the district annual meeting, a Bridging Ceremony for our senior youth, and child care for those who need it.

The rates for both registration and lodging increase on April 5, so make your plans now to join your fellow UU's as we learn together, celebrate our values, and enjoy one another's company at District Assembly.

Do you have your copy of our newly published Centennial Cookbook yet? See Julie Gangai at church on Sundays or print the cookbook order form, fill it out and mail it to the address indicated along with your check, and have the cookbook mailed to you.
Are you a Public Market person? Like to get there early for the bargains? Or do you stay late for the leftover deals? Whichever you are, we'd like to ask your help Saturday May 3 when we will be getting out beyond our church walls and Sharing our Faith by selling our Centennial Cookbooks to the broader community. Contact Kris at 546-282 as soon as possible.
In an effort to assure open comminication and to provide an avenue for dialog, each Sunday after the service, two or more of our Board of Trustee members will be at the Listening Table in the Clara Barton Lounge.
Stop by and bring your ideas, concerns and congratualtions for jobs well done.
It takes a whole congregation to run a church!
On March 20, 2008, after a brief and unexpected illness, Carl Reynolds, Connie Valk's husband, died. We held a memorial service for Carl here at First Universalist on Saturday, March 29, 2008.
The news of Carl's death came as a shock to us all. He is sorely missed. Our love, best wishes and prayers go out to Connie and to the rest of Carl's family.
In addition to Connie, Carl is survived by sons Carl Henry V "Chris" & Jodi, David & Andrea; mother Mary Reynolds; brothers Steve & Kathleen, George, John & Argilla; sisters Susan, Elizabeth & Gwynn; former wife Julie Reynolds; several neices and nephews.
Carl taught Computer Science at Rochester Institute of Technology and was an avid sailor.
