Music
Choir practice starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. All who like to sing are welcome to join. Contact Alden Gatt, our Music Director, at

The choir performed Renaissance music by Palestrina on Sunday, March 16, 2008 and the Ave Verum Corpus by Byrd on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. Also on Easter Sunday, the choir was joined by members and friends in the congregation in singing the Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah by Handel.
Our annual Choir Sunday is in early December. For our 2007 Choir Sunday, the choir sang Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols.
Lunchtime concerts presented by the Eastman School of Music take place every Thursday during the school year at the First Universalist Church, beginning at 12:15 p.m. and ending at approximately 12:45 p.m. Brown bag lunches are welcome during the performances. Admission is free.
A partial schedule for Winter 2008 is:
- April 24, 2008 -- Jewish Threads. Susan Krasner, mezzo soprano from the studio of Jane Günter McCoy, brings us a modern exploration of traditional Jewish prayers, joined by Robert Pickert, guitar and Andy Calabrese, keyboards.
- May 1, 2008 -- Magnolia plays Brahms. Enjoy a performance of Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio in C Major, Op. 87 played by the Magnolia Trio (Meredith Blecha, cello; Liana Koteva, violin; Linda Boianova, piano).
- May 8, 2008 -- Truffles and Trills. Indulge in a delightful afternoon as adult vocalists from the studio of Patricia Alexander perform! Performers include: Leona Henderson, Tom Ven Vertloh, Glenda Brayman, Vera Forster, Maureen DeGolyer, Rochelle Fleming and Gail Weaver.
- May 15, 2008 -- Honors Finale I: Flutes and Piano Join us for high school honors graduates from the Eastman Community Music School: flutists Joyce Shin and Anna Schroeder and pianist Ryo Miyamoto.
- May 22, 2008 -- Honors Finale II: Jazz Pianist Angelo Di Loreto and trumpeter Evan Henry perform their jazz honors selections.
- May 29, 2008 -- Honors Finale III: Trumpet, Piano and More Flute!
The final round of honors graduates features flutist Laura Pillman, Pianist Jack Chang, Jr. and Evan Henry on classical trumpet.

Alden Gatt, a pianist from Naples, Florida, is a sophomore at the Eastman School of Music studying with Barry Snyder. Alden has been with the First Universalist Church for just over a year, and is delighted to be able to work with such a warm and welcoming congregation.
Alden rehearses with the choir at 9 o'clock before every service, and performs on the piano and historic Hope Jones organ during the service.
Alden recently performed Prokofiev's first piano concerto with the Southwest Florida Symphony. He studied mandarin Chinese in Beijing for a year before graduating high school.
